Amidst a brutal conflict, millions of people across Sudan are displaced and facing the threat of famine and death. More than 1 million people have fled across the border to seek safety in South Sudan, a country hit by the worst floods in decades.

We cannot allow these people to be forgotten. With your support, our partners can provide life-saving support, stop this widespread hunger and bring hope to people fleeing conflict.

It is not too late to save lives. Please help if you can. Every prayer, every gift, every action brings hope to people in need.

What’s happening in Sudan?

Millions of people in Sudan are facing famine as war devastates lives and forces families to flee. The crisis has become the world’s largest displacement emergency.

The impact:

  • Displacement: Over 12 million people have been forced from their homes.
  • Hunger crisis: 25.6 million people face food insecurity, with 800,000 on the brink of famine.
  • Health emergency: Cholera outbreaks have killed over 1,000 people, and thousands more are at risk.

The war has devastated livelihoods, destroyed infrastructure and cut off food and aid supplies. The UN warns famine will spread without urgent intervention – the only place in the world at this level of hunger.

Sudan is overwhelmed. Urgent action is needed to provide food, shelter and medical care to those caught in this crisis.

How is Christian Aid responding?

Through local partners, Christian Aid is both helping people impacted by the war in Sudan and meeting the needs of displaced families and host communities in South Sudan.

In Sudan

Christian Aid is among several donors to have provided funding to the ACT Alliance and Caritas joint appeal for Sudan to help provide lifesaving humanitarian support direct to nearly 20,000 families.

Funds raised through this appeal will help local organisations in Sudan:

  • Providing emergency cash so families can buy what they need most.
  • Improving access to clean water and sanitation.
  • Offering counselling and support for those traumatised by war.
  • Supporting refugees fleeing to South Sudan with essential supplies and shelter.

In South Sudan

We’re working with partners on flooding response, food insecurity and peacebuilding.

In Northern Bahr El Ghazal, we’re working with the Coalition for Humanity (CH) and Smile Again Africa Development Organization (SAADO) to support livelihoods, protect people from gender-based violence, and promote local peacebuilding. SAADO also provides cash to refugees from Sudan, helping them buy essentials and rebuild their lives.

In Upper Nile, Jonglei, Leet and Pibor, though local charities we’re providing cash, dignity kits and specialist support to over 26,000 people. In Central Equatoria, we’re helping thousands prepare for climate-related floods with anticipatory cash and mitigation support.

The attacks and the war came closer and closer to our home. We waited as long as we could, hoping it would calm down, but eventually, we had to leave.

Pray for peace in Sudan

Lord Jesus, you bless the peacemakers and comfort those who mourn.

We pray to you for all people affected by the conflict in Sudan.

May there be hope for healing in the region.

Console with your presence all who are fearful, exhausted, and grieving.

Lord Jesus, you were carried into Egypt in your mother’s arms, in search of safety.

We pray to you for those crossing into South Sudan to escape the violence.

May they have food, water, support and a secure place to stay.

Shelter with your love all who have had to leave their homes and face an uncertain future.

Lord Jesus, you challenge us to love our neighbour, to do good, and to seek justice.

We pray that those who have the power and resources to act will turn their attention to this crisis.

May the supplies and assistance that are so desperately needed come quickly.

Strengthen through your spirit all who are pursuing peace.

Amen
