As Christians, we’re called to reflect God’s love and kindness in all that we do. Whether in our families, communities or in the wider world, our faith is rooted in acts of compassion and grace.

The Bible repeatedly reminds us that love isn’t just a feeling but an action—one that calls us to serve, forgive and uplift others. At Christian Aid, we believe in putting our love and faith into action by standing with those in need, just as Jesus taught. Here are seven Bible verses that inspire us to love generously and show kindness to all.

After 80 years spent fighting against poverty and injustice, there is still so much more to be done. How will you make lasting change this Christian Aid Week?

What the bible says about love and kindness:

  1. Psalm 136:1 – ‘O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.’
  2. Proverbs 21:21 – ‘Whoever pursues righteousness and kindness will find life and honour.’
  3. Luke 6:35a - ‘...love your enemies, do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return.’
  4. Philippians 2:4 – ‘Let each of you look not to your own interests but to the interests of others.’
  5. 1 John 4:7 – ‘Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.’
  6. John 15:12 – ‘This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.’
  7. Ephesians 4:32 – ‘Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you.’

Keeping love and kindness in our prayers

Love and kindness are more than just words—they’re ways of living that we must intentionally nurture. As we reflect on these verses, let us ask God to help us be more loving in our actions, words and thoughts. Whether through small acts of kindness, generosity or patience, we can make a difference in the world, one person at a time.

A prayer for love

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for your endless love and mercy.

Teach us to love others as you love us—

without conditions, without hesitation, and without fear.

Help us to show kindness to those in need,

to forgive those who hurt us,

and to stand for justice where there is suffering.

Let our lives reflect your compassion,

so that through us, others may see

Your love at work in the world.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen

Amelia’s story

How your kindness creates change

The climate crisis is killing Amelia’s precious crops. Dying crops means food stops.

‘I worry about what my children will eat.’- Amelia

She relies on the land to feed her eight-year-old son, Lázaro, and four-year-old daughter, Yakelin.

However, your incredible fundraising efforts and generous donations have allowed Amelia to receive specialist training from our partner, Congcoop.

Amelia’s now planting resilient crops, conserving water and making fertiliser, making a sustainable future for both herself and her loved ones.
