For 79 years, Christian Aid has provided long-term development support and humanitarian relief worldwide, highlighting suffering, tackling injustice and championing people’s rights.

As we step into our 80th year, we reflect on what we’ve achieved. In 2023/24, Christian Aid and our global partners have reached millions, helping them overcome poverty, rebuild lives and face the challenges of today’s world.

With your support, we work to achieve one mission: to end poverty and injustice, and to build a world where everyone can live with dignity, equality and hope.

Since October 2023, our supporters have responded generously to our Gaza appeal, enabling us to get vital support to devastated communities. They have also prayed and campaigned for a ceasefire to allow scaled up delivery of aid and to lay the foundation for a just peace.

We continue to work in Ukraine, providing psychological support and practical help through local partners. And in Libya, your generous gifts helped people recover after devastating floods, responding to urgent needs through our ACT Alliance sister agency Dan Church Aid. Our work is more impactful and sustainable through working with others.

Stories of impact from around the globe

How working closely with our partners on the ground has made tangible, lasting change in 2023/24.

Ukraine

Rebuilding lives

In the Mykolaiv region of Ukraine, Ivanna’s village was almost entirely destroyed by the ongoing conflict. Once the fighting ceased, Ivanna and her neighbours returned to find their homes and public buildings in ruins.

With support form the DEC appeal for Ukraine that raised £438 million, Christian Aid partnered with Heritage Foundation to provide cash grants for community-led rebuilding efforts.

These ‘survivor and community-led response’ grants enable communities to choose where best to spend the money. The village has used the grant to rebuild their school’s destroyed library and turn it into a community centre for everyone.

Malawi

Rural entrepreneurs

In rural Malawi, access to business funding is scarce, especially for women who may have missed out on education due to early marriage or family poverty. Lida Lackson, a mother of four, faced these challenges but remained determined to improve her family’s situation.

With support from Christian Aid’s Rural Entrepreneurship Assistance Programme (REAP), Lida launched a tomato-selling business, providing for her children and even paying their school fees.

Linda is not alone. So far REAP has provided loans to 5,044 households, enabling 1,077 individuals to launch new businesses and 347 to expand existing ones.

Honduras

A honey haven

In Honduras, our partner OCDIH helped Juanita, a mother of two, become a commercial beekeeper, providing an income to support her children.

The beekeeping project was more than just about business—it’s about addressing the violence and climate injustice that affects women in the region.

Juanita also trains other women in her community, helping them access the justice system and fight against the societal challenges they face.
