Our advocacy influences changes in national, regional and global policies and practices across Christian Aid’s thematic priorities.
Our policy resources provide the necessary evidence and analysis–grounded in our research—the priorities of our partners and communities they work among, and the feminist, anti-racist and decolonial perspectives of our partners and wider networks.
We aim to have a prophetic voice which speaks in solidarity with people living in poverty and marginalisation, to both influence and inform a wide range of stakeholders from civil society to government, international institutions, private sector and church leaders.
Governance and rights
Our work promotes open civic space, citizen agency, feminist political leadership, human rights and access to justice with an advocacy focus on fiscal justice and human rights in business.
We aim to support people living in poverty and exclusion to voice their economic and social justice concerns and promote transformative change.
At the global level, we're calling for fairer rules governing international financing and a stronger voice for poor countries in decision making.
Gender justice
Our vision is a world of gender justice and equity in which neither women nor men, nor any other gender identity are excluded, marginalised or discriminated against, but live in dignity.
Our advocacy promotes policies and practices that challenge patriarchy and other discriminatory and exclusionary social norms which combine to entrench poverty and create powerlessness.
In this, we're committed to enabling people who are marginalised to make their voices heard and claim their rights.
Climate adaptation and resilience
Our goal is a just response to climate change that ensures those most affected have the means to respond to disasters, reduce risks, and build thriving resilient livelihoods.
Our climate change advocacy and campaigning calls on countries with the greatest responsibility to urgently cut emissions and increase access to international climate finance, to enable locally rooted adaptation responses and a just and equitable transition to sustainable renewable energy.
Christian Aid is calling on the UK to support climate vulnerable communities and build trust on the global stage. Get involved.
Humanitarian response and resilience
Our humanitarian advocacy aims to respect the views and agency of people and communities affected by crises and promote responses that are accountable, needs-based, conflict-sensitive, inclusive and timely, as part of a fair and effective humanitarian system.
We also respond to the specific issues emerging in crisis contexts, calling for changes that address the root causes of crises and lay the foundations for peace and a just recovery.
Peacebuilding and conflict prevention
Recognising that conflict has complex causes, our advocacy aims to support the conditions for a sustainable peace by challenging the drivers and root causes of fragility, conflict and violence. It's rooted in the work of our partner organisations and an understanding of power dynamics and the politics of change in the communities they serve.
